Oftentimes issuers ask what the difference is between a custodian and a Transfer Agent.So here we go ...a custodian is a financial institution that holds and safeguards assets on behalf of its clients. The assets can be physical assets, such as precious metals or real estate, or financial assets, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. The custodian is responsible for maintaining accurate records of the assets, ensuring that they are properly insured, and protecting them from theft or damage.A transfer agent is a company (like Securitize) that maintains records of securities and processes transactions involving those securities. Transfer agents keep track of who owns what securities, handle the transfer of securities from one owner to another, and issue and cancel certificates when securities are bought or sold. Transfer agents also play a role in corporate actions, such as stock splits and mergers, and handle the distribution of dividends and other payments to shareholders.In summary, a custodian is a financial institution that holds and protects assets on behalf of its clients, while a transfer agent is a company that maintains records of securities and processes transactions involving those securities.

nice and succinct. would you happen to know how one could find how many securities are directly registered? i am writing a doc, and trying to identify how many shares have been successfully removed from DTC and registered in individuals names. according to DTC, they alone own(thought their custodian Cede and Co.) nearly $87.1 Trillion or nearly 80% of all stocks world wide. https://www.dtcc.com/about/businesses-and-subsidiaries/dtc
